Description: "Hospital costs to soar to $500,000" details the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Mr. N. Boyce revealing Gosford District Hospital has been allocated $500,000 by the Hospitals Commission for running costs of the hospital for the year 1966/67. Of this amount, $200,000 will need to be raised locally through patient fees. The Hospitals Commission has allocated 50 new staff positions to the hospital which when filled will bring the number of staff to approximately 220. The majority of new staff will be nurses, both trained and untrained. The Hospitals Commission has provided a grant for furnishing the new nurses home and training school which is nearing completion for occupation in early February. The renovated section, including the blood bank, should be finished by early next month. This will increase the hospital's capacity to 135 beds. The new additions and renovations will make the hospital one of the most modern in the state. A vacancy exists on the Board of Directors following the death of its Secretary Mr. Harry Craft and Mr. N. Boyce will now be known as Chief Executive Officer following a change to the Public Hospitals Act and Hospital By-Laws.
