Description: "Minister Inspects Hospital" details a visit by NSW Minister for Health Mr. A. H. Jago to Gosford District Hospital. Mr. Jago toured the new wing and grounds with hospital secretary Mr. N. R. Boyce and Matron Iris Inskip. The extensions should be ready by March and include a three-storey ward block, kitchen and boiler rooms. The extensions will increase capacity at the hospital from 65 to 130 beds with an increase of approximately 100 staff. Mr. Boyce stated it cost £170,000 per annum to run the hospital, but when the extensions were completed it would cost £300,000. From the second storey of the hospital additions, Mr. Jago was was shown the adjacent Army land which will be needed for the hospital's expansion. Matron Inskip told Mr. Jago that noise from guns fired during Army practices was harmful to patients, especially those suffering coronaries. Negotiations are underway between the NSW Hospitals Commission and the Army to buy this land.
