Description: "Year of Great Expansion" details the Annual Meeting of the Gosford District Hospital Board. Retiring Chairman, Mr. R. G. Matthews said that the expansion of the hospital to twice its former size at a total cost of $1,120,000 would make 1966 one of the milestones in the history of the institution. Dr. L. Walters was appointed to the position of Medical Superintendent. A residence was constructed during the year on the hospital grounds by J. W. Elms and Dr. and Mrs. Walters recently occupied the residence. Local building firm, Beattie and Frost Pty. Ltd is carrying out major extensions to the nurses' home to provide 30 more bedrooms. The auxiliaries have raised a total of $3,446.00. A Blood Bank has been approved with donations received from the Red Cross and the Central Coast District Women's Bowling Association. Objectives for the future of the hospital were identified as: elevation of Gosford District Hospital to Base Hospital status with approximately 300 beds and peripheral hospitals at Woy Woy and Wyong to meet the needs of the whole Central Coast Region.
