Description: "£500,000 Hospital Extensions" details the Minister for Health Mr. W. F. Sheahan officially setting the foundation stone of the new extensions to the Gosford District Hospital. The total cost of the extensions, including necessary equipment is estimated at £500,000, with the contract price for the building now under construction at £421,000. The Chairman of the Gosford District Hospital Board of Directors, Mr. R. G. Mathews presided over the proceedings. In a speech, Mr. Mathews thanked the Commissioners of the Hospital Commission and stated the District is seeking two more District Nurses and does not have any resident doctors. Mr. K. H. Gain, a member of the Hospitals' Commission said the new additions would increase beds from 60 to 130, with the ultimate aim to increase to 200 beds. Mr. H. E. Jackson, M.L.A. for Gosford stressed the need for feeder hospitals at Woy Woy and Wyong. Mr. John Goodings, representing the architects presented Mr. Sheahan with a silver trowel. Mr. Ray Maher, M.L.A. and Mr. Bill Maxwell, M.P. for Robertson also spoke at the meeting with Mr. Maher reminding the Minister of the need for a hospital at Wyong.
