Biography
Oliver Higgins is a Registered Nurse and member of the Australian College of Mental Health Nursing. He is a nursing scientist and computing scientist with a strong background in both fields. He holds a Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Technology, Sydney, where he learned about the principles of nursing, patient care, and mental health. He also holds a Bachelor of Technology from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, where he developed his foundation in programming, software development, and computer systems. In addition to his bachelor’s degrees, Oliver has post-graduate qualifications in Mental Health Nursing from the University of Technology, Sydney, and Clinical Redesign from the University of Tasmania. These programs allowed him to specialise in mental health care and to learn about innovative approaches to improving healthcare systems. Oliver’s research focuses on the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and technology, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) in nursing and mental health. He is a PhD candidate at the University of Newcastle, where he is working on a project using machine learning to assist in the assessment of mental health consumers presenting to emergency departments. He has published articles in international journals and has received various awards for his research and achievements.
