Description: "Hospital career spans 25 years : growth of service is a challenge" details the career at Gosford District Hospital of Matron Marie Lowndes, Director of Nursing. Her career is set against the backdrop of the growth of a 35 bed hospital in 1956, 65 beds in 1958, 125 beds in 1966, to the 520 bed complex over 5 integrated hospitals by 1981. Staff increased from 42 in 1959 to 700 in 1981. Mention is made of Dr Alan Harmey and Dr Craig Duncan in the casualty ward during long weekends of "blood and gore".
